Many research papers published in mathematics journals include numerical results obtained through computation. By default, EDP Sciences has a policy of encouraging authors to upload data and code related to their research to an online repository, and to include a data availability statement and data/code citations in their articles. Five of the maths journals published by EDP Sciences in partnership with the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI) have implemented a more prescriptive data sharing policy.

As an EPS Associate Member, EDP Sciences enjoys every opportunity to support and participate in EPS events. Isabelle Auffret-Babak, Senior Publisher, recently returned from two wonderful days in Naples where the EPS Young Minds Leadership Meeting 2023 took place. It was hosted by PONYS – Naples Young Minds (Physics and Optics Naples Young Students) and attracted around 100 participants.

Paris, France, 18 May 2023: EDP Sciences and the Société Française de Radioprotection (SFRP) announced today that they have decided against transitioning Radioprotection to open access under Subscribe to Open (S2O) in 2023. Despite concerted efforts to promote the initiative and reach the required subscription threshold, the financial viability of the transition was not achieved at this time. This decision underscores the reality that open access for S2O journals is not guaranteed unless subscriptions are renewed.

In 2022, we proudly announced our membership of the UN SDG Publishers Compact. Since then, we have been working steadily on the ten commitments all signatories undertake. In particular, “Actively promoting and acquiring content that advocates for themes represented by the SDGs, such as equality, sustainability, justice and safeguarding and strengthening the environment.”

Paris, France, 3 May 2023: Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A) is pleased to announce that it will continue to publish its research in open access for the second consecutive year under the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model. In contrast to other core astronomy journals that have transitioned or will transition to open access via the Gold (APC) route, A&A has chosen a different approach to achieve immediate open access while minimizing any potential disruption to authors or subscribers. This decision reaffirms A&A's commitment to making its high-quality research easily accessible to the global scientific community, while also ensuring sustainability and financial stability for the journal.

Earlier this year, we wrote about how EDP Sciences is getting involved in the SFP’s 150th anniversary celebrations throughout 2023. In April, for example, we are proud to sponsor the International Physicists’ Tournament 2023 at the École polytechnique in Palaiseau. In May, our books team will be at the Festival Double·Science in Paris. Also in May, the first in a series of five Masterclasses on “Science publishing and Open Science” will take place in Nice.

We are pleased to welcome three institutions to the National Open Access Agreement in France (Accord national pour l’accès ouvert en France) from 2023. The new members are Université d'Artois, Université de Rouen and Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne. Corresponding authors from these institutions and, indeed, all member institutions, may publish their work open access, free of charge in 31 participating journals. There are no publication fees or article processing charges (APCs).

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for EPJ D topical issue on “Electron and Positron Interactions and Their Applications”. The issue is intended to gather contributions from contemporary research on electron and positron interactions, both theory and experiment, and applications of these studies across areas such as, but not limited to, atmospheric modelling, materials characterisation, medical science, biological imaging and chemical processing.

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in writing has sparked discussions around ethics and authorship in the academic publishing industry. The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) has presented an overview of the current debates on its website and has recently published a position statement regarding the use of AI in research papers.
